Office of the Director-General

: The Director-General is the Chief Executive of the Scheme and is charged with the day-to-day running of the scheme. He is to liaise with all functionaries of government for the smooth running of the Scheme and serve as secretary to the Board. Functions of the Director-General include t Directors on grade level 15. These are Operations and Common Services which are further divided as follows:-

•  Chief Executive and Accounting Officer responsible for the day-to-day running of the Scheme.

•  Implementation of the specified actions and programmes of the Scheme to achieve its objectives.

•  Implementation of policy decisions, provisions of the enabling decrees and amendments as they relate to call-up, placement and issuance of national service and exemption certificates.

•  Preparation of submission of annual report, budgets and accounts to appropriate quarters.

•  Maintenance of good public image for the scheme.

  Liaison with relevant collaborating agencies, especially corps producing institutions and training organizations.

•  Convening regular meetings of Management, Committees and Boards essential for the smooth operation of the scheme.

•  Responsible to the National Directorate or the accredited supervisory body.

Achievements: The achievements of the Incumbent Director-General, include:

•  Initiating a five-point policy direction which includes:

•  Ensuring an open and democratic administration.

•  Ensuring the revival and consolidation of all viable programmes and activities of past administrations that have impacted on the image of the scheme and endeared it to the people.

•  Ensuring accountability, probity and fairness in all transactions.

•  Enhancing staff and corps welfare through programmes and activities that would ensure their full participation and self-fulfillment in the administration of the scheme.

•  Ensuring that all decisions and actions of Management are based on the rule of law and the best interest of the scheme and the nation.

•  Revival/Reconstitution of Standing Committees at the National Directorate Headquarters which include:

•  Policy Thrust Committee to make out the Policy direction of the administration.

•  Committee to revisit the cases of married women staffs that were posted away from their families.

•  Committees to work out modalities for the resuscitation of all recreational activities of corps members as a way of effectively engaging their energies and service for the benefit of the host communities and the nation, e.g. Director-General's Football and Volleyball competitions and NYSC Dance and Drama Competitions which was discontinued over 4 years are revived and successfully stated in Abuja.
