ZONAL OFFICE STRUCTURE :
In line with the provisions of the amended decree No 51 of 16 June 1993 , which gave legal backing to the establishment of Zonal Offices in each state of the Federation, the NYSC operates Zonal administration. The idea is to decentralize the operations of the scheme so as to bring it closer to the grass root level.
Under the Zonal structure, local government areas in each state are grouped into Zones with a minimum of four zones in each state, and the zonal secretariat is located in the Local Government secretariat of the Zonal Headquarters and headed by a Zonal Inspector.
The Zonal offices are primarily to closely inspect and monitor the activities of corps members serving within the zone.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE :
The establishment of NYSC Local Government Committee with its office in the Office of the Chairman of the Local Government is to ensure that the three tiers of Government in the Country contribute their quota at every level to the success of the scheme.
Membership of the Local Government Committee is also drawn from similar bodies just like the Boards at National and State levels, but with slight variations. These include a Traditional Ruler, the Police, Education, Health, Social Welfare and community development departments of the Local Government Secretariat as well as from the private sector.
The NYSC Local Government Committee has specific functions especially as regards the welfare and security of Corps members serving within the locality as well as developing and funding community development projects of Corps members in the area. ........ .................. MORE
